Maria Jose – “This is the place!”

Maria Jose works at Dorie's Promise

Behind every good team, there are great individuals that make tremendous sacrifices.

One of these individuals is Maria Jose.  Maria Jose handles all the legal work involved with caring for our children.  She is a woman who sees her work as more than just managing files and lawyers but as giving hope and restoring lives.

Here is my recent interview with her:

Desi: How long have you been at Dorie’s Promise?

Maria Jose: I’ve been working at Dorie’s Promise since 2007.

Desi: What do you like about your job?

Maria Jose: Working here has been the best experience of my life.   I asked the Lord to give work that mattered and had purpose.  When I came to Dorie’s Promise, I knew I found the right job!  I told God … this is the place.  I knew my calling was to help change the lives of these children.”

Desi: What has changed about you since you started working here?

Maria Jose: The experience of working at Dorie’s Promise has made me see the reality of my own country.  It is really sad to see how our children are abandoned in the streets and hurt by their parents physically and emotionally.

What I love most is to see orphaned and abused children begin to change when they arrive at Dorie’s Promise.  It is like their world is transformed.  The sadness turns into happiness and the hopelessness turns into hope.

Desi: What do you appreciate most about working here?

Maria Jose: Since Adoptions were closed in Guatemala, Dorie’s Promise has seen financial difficulties. Thanks to God and all those families and individuals that have given donations our home continues to move forward.  Heather’s vision for Dorie’s Promise and our children inspires me.  All the people giving to keep things going makes me feel like we are not alone.

Desi: Is there anything you would say to our friends back in the United States?

Maria Jose: Oh yes!  I invite you to come and visit us at Dorie’s Promise.  We have room for you!  Come and make the difference in our country and serve the little ones who have been forgotten by our government.  When you come and see all that is here and all that is going on, you will be like me – changed – changed forever!
