Baby Max is Melting Hearts

Max at Dorie's Promise

Baby Max’s Story

by Jennifer Korte

The precious cry of a newborn commenced downstairs just as we walked into Casa 5 last night.  The timing was perfect.  We had just heard the news that another new baby had joined the family at Dorie’s Promise, and we couldn’t wait to meet him.

My husband Derek peeked in the crib, and as he lifted the bundle he caught the first glimpse of Maximilian, a perfect little 7-day-old baby boy.  Our hearts melted. Max latched onto Derek’s finger and his crying ceased.  He was happy and content in loving arms, unaware of the difficult hand he’d been dealt in his first week of life.

The only information the staff at Dorie’s Promise has been given about this priceless baby is his age and his name.  They may learn more at his hearing in November, but for now Max is at home in Casa 5, in the loving care of the Special Moms there and the visitors like us.

As Derek held the sleeping angel in his arms, the emotions were hard to fight back: We felt sorrow since this beautiful boy was either unwanted or was born into a family unable to safely care for him. He is alone in this world. At the same time, however, we felt gratitude for a place like Dorie’s Promise, where he could feel the love every child needs.

We’ve visited other orphanages here on our two mission trips with Forever Changed International and we’ve seen the difficult conditions from which some of the children at Dorie’s have been rescued.  We know that Max is immensely blessed to be placed here.  For him, at least for now, this will be home.  His needs will be met here, he will be safe and loved, and most of all he will learn about the Lord here. .

Please join me in praying for Max, for his health and safety and happiness.  Please also join me in prayer for Dorie’s Promise, that their financial needs are met so they can continue to rescue the orphans of Guatemala like Max, who in his sleep last night melted our hearts and left us forever changed.
